Greeter Duties at 8:00
(Revised February 2005)(Since visitors at 8:00 are infrequent, 1 Usher and 1 Greeter are sufficient for this service. However, when the occasional visitor shows up, special attention needs to be given to them.) Greeters and Ushers should arrive no later than 7:45.
- Stand near the outside door and open it as people arrive. In nice weather prop open both doors.
- Greet everybody as they enter.
- Hand them, or ask them to get, their nametags. For visitors, print them one in large letters, using a "Sharpie" on the blue paper provided.
- For visitors: In addition to making a nametag, (1) hand them a visitor packet, (2) encourage them to sign the visitor sheet, and (3) direct them to the Usher.
- If a member chooses not to use their nametag, you take it from the rack and put it in the nametag return holder. (It makes it easy for Carole to track attendance using nametags in the holder on Monday.)
- When the service begins stay in the narthex for about 10 minutes to watch for and assist latecomers.
- At the offertory come forward with the usher to get the alms basins. Bring the blue attendance count with you as you come forward to get the alms, not when you return them. By then the celebrant has already had to guess the count as he/she prepares the bread and wine.
- Following the service locate any visitors, invite them to the parish hall and ask a member to take them there and introduce them to people.
- After directing any visitors to the parish hall, go into the church and pick up bulletins and put in trash, return prayer books to the racks and straighten chairs.
