What is Ordination?

Ordination is the rite in which God gives authority and the grace of the Holy Spirit to those being made bishops, priests, and deacons, through prayer and the laying on of hands by bishops.  Fr. Bill and Deacon Sue were ordained in the Church through this process to serve as shepherds of our parish, our local community, and the world at large on behalf of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We are blessed as a parish to have them both!

Ordination reflects the extensive training and education programs that fulfill a calling to the ministry and God's service.  Deacon Sue invested four years in the Education for Ministry Program (EfM) and two years in the Diaconal Education Program.  Deacon Sue joined St. Gabe's in 2006.  Father Bill spent three years in Masters of Divinity Program at The Virginia Theological Seminary.  He was ordained to the priesthood in 2004.  Fr. Bill and his family joined St. Gabe's in 2007.
