Usher Duties at 10:30
(Revised February 2005)At 10:30, 2 Greeters and 2 Ushers are assigned. Greeters/Ushers should arrive no later than 10:10.
Usher # 1:
- Stand just inside the church doors.
- Have the bulletins and Service Booklets with you.
- As people come in greet them and give them a bulletin.
- If they are visitors, (1) give them a bulletin; (2) ask them if they are familiar with Episcopal worship. If they are, (3) direct them to Usher # 2. If they are not, (4) give them a Service Booklet and direct them to Usher # 2.
- When the service begins join with Usher # 2 and stay at the back wall during the service, at least until the offertory, to watch for latecomers.
- At the offertory, come forward with Usher # 2 and the oblation bearers to get the alms basins. Don't forget the blue attendance count!
- Following the service get with the VPOD and take the collection to the sacristy, count and record the cash, put it in a bank bag and hand it to the VPOD.
- If there were visitors at the service look for them in the parish hall, visit with them and try to get phone number or address.
Usher # 2:
- Stand near Usher #1 and watch for visitors, (those with blue nametags).
- As visitors come in assist them in finding a seat, preferably next to a member. Introduce them to the nearby member.
- At the offertory, come forward with Usher # 1 and the oblation bearers to get the alms basins. Don't forget the blue attendance count!
- At the end of the service stand near the back door with the Ch'angel Box and "encourage" contributions from members, (not visitors).
- Following the service straighten chairs, pick up all bulletins and put in trash, return prayer books and hymnals to the rack under the chairs, return service booklets to the basket.
