Vestry 2008
The Vestry is the governing body of a local Episcopal Parish. The senior minister of the congregation is the Presiding Officer of the Vestry, which is usually made up of from 9 to 15 lay members elected by the congregation on a rotating cycle. The Vestry administers the business of the Parish in monthly meetings and committee work.
In the absence of the Rector or Vicar, or at his discretion, the Senior Warden, or in his absence the Junior Warden, preside at all meetings of the Vestry.
At St. Gabriel's, each member of the parish is assigned to a Vestry person who is responsible for keeping in touch with them and advising the Rector and Vestry of needs or concerns that should be addressed.
Vestry are elected prior to the annual Parish dinner. To be elected to the Vestry one must be at least 18 years of age, confirmed, and a contributing member of the parish.
